The following is a listing of past events in which SEEC has hosted or participated:
SEEC researchers Associate Professor Ralph Hamann and Farai Kapfudzaruwa were part of a panel presentation together with colleagues from the Freie Berlin University in Germany at the International Studies Association (ISA) 53rd annual convention in San Diego, California, USA from 1-4 April 2012. The title of their panel presentation was: “Business Responses to Climate Change in Areas of Limited Statehood”

The SEEC research team and colleagues from the UCT Centre of Criminology travelled to Berlin, Germany for a workshop with collaborators from the Freie Universität Berlin on 10-11 October. The workshop was the second of a three-year collaborative research project, funded by the NRF, that focuses on the question: “Why and how business actors contribute to climate governance in areas of limited statehood?”. SEEC researchers Dr Ralph Hamann and Farai Kapfudzaruwa attended the 71st Academy of Management Annual Meeting in August 2011 at San Antonio, Texas, USA. Farai and Ralph presented a working paper titled “Corporate Responses to Climate Change in Africa: The Emerging Organizational Configurations”. The paper was written in collaboration with Dr Umesh Kumar.
SEEC researcher Nadine Methner attended a conference on “Water Governance: Meeting the Challenges of Global Change” in Obergurgel, Austria in June. The main aims of the conference were: i) to establish the state of the art on major advances in concepts and methodology in analyses of water governance; ii) to bridge regional and global scales in multi-level analyses of water governance; iii) and to strengthen the emerging community of water governance scholars. Nadine presented preliminary findings from her PhD on water management practices at the catchment level
SEEC researchers Dr Umesh Kumar and John Fay attended Association for Environmental Studies and Science 2011 Annual Meeting and Conference titled “Confronting Complexity” in June 2011 at University of Vermont. John and Umesh presented a working paper titled “A Market Model Based Financial Benchmark Required to Access Finance for Renewable Energy Projects in South Africa”. John was also a finalist for the 2nd Annual AESS Outstanding Student Presentation Award.
SEEC researcher Nadine Methner attended the Resilience 2011 in March titled: conference “Resilience, Innovation and Sustainability: Navigating the Complexities of Global Change” at Arizona State University in Arizona where she gave a presentation titled “The Role of Informal Social Networks in Water Resources Governance: Analyzing Collaborative Network Formations around Issues of Degrading Water Quality in the Berg River Catchment, South Africa”.
